Under the mistletoe

Kissing under the mistletoe is what you do around Christmas time, right?

Well, we have a mistletoe hanging in the entrance of the house all year around. I mean – one should use all opportunities for kissing.

I investigated where this tradition comes from. Many sources say many things – so I decided to go with the good old Wikipedia explanation. According to them, it was described in 1820 by American author Washington Irving in his “The Sketch Book of Geoffrey Crayon”:

“The mistletoe is still hung up in farm-houses and kitchens at Christmas, and the young men have the privilege of kissing the girls under it, plucking each time a berry from the bush. When the berries are all plucked the privilege ceases.”

Well – so go out and kiss before all the berries are plucked by somebody else…..

And while investigating on this wonderful tradition I found this song. And I was really considering, if I should post it. It is Justin Bieber … I know! I am a bit embarrassed … It is Justin Bieber! Well … but it is really a very nice and Christmassy one – and 190 million clicks on youtube cannot be so wrong ….. so don’t tell anybody you got it from my blog.

Gotta go – there is some kissing to be done!
